Cowpen Swamp

Cowpens Mitigation Bank is a 1,387-acre mitigation bank that is located on a 1,518-acre tract in Horry County, SC. The Bank is in the Waccamaw River watershed, 8-digit Hydrologic Unit Code 03040206. The Bank is located within the Middle Atlantic Coastal Plain Level III Ecoregion.

Overall, the Bank will protect approximately 1,358 acres of jurisdictional aquatic resources (streams and wetlands). The site does not contain any uplands other than the network of roads that have been maintained throughout the site. Plans for the site include preservation of the 117.8 acres of mixed hardwood and longleaf areas, along with longleaf restoration in the 1224.14 acre area currently dominated by loblolly pine plantation. 

It is anticipated that the bank will be approved by late 2022.
